A Tribute to Death

Image
A beginning to all ends and closed doors, Uninvited, yet your presence awakens and pours- A new feeling within your frozen self- To pry on the change, you are forced to dwell.   You are not a farewell but a path set aside, For the mortals that had failed to abide- The rules of eternal truth, you shun- That time and tide wait for none.   You are a mirror to the deeds in the past, A yearning to hold a past that would last. A reality that a future will be born, With the dreams, of those who are gone.   You are no slayer or a merciless disguise, But a healer of the hurt soul, I surmise! You bring the living closer to reality- That life once born will not survive to eternity.   Life takes you through laughter and pain, Death returns you to the stars once again. If life is an ode of both sorrow and cheer, Death then, is the silence that makes it sincere.   © Anjana Premkumar   2025

Who is Wild

Image
Man, and beast had shared the land, In harmony they lived, with peace at hand. But now the wild strays into human domain, Branded as threats and reasons of pain.   Elephants, tigers, and boars untamed, Roam through settlements, their hunger inflamed. Not one, not two, but many lost lives, Felled by beasts, nothing thrives nor revives.   And man, in anger, sought to avenge, Traps were laid, to take their revenge. Merciless hands struck the beasts down, As if their deaths could appease the town.   Eyes wept for the human loss, Mourning for lives whose fate were tossed. But who would hear the silent cries, Of beasts, with no one to lament if they die.   Why do they stray? The answer though known, Yet man pretends, refusing to own. Their selfish reasons cruel and senseless, Blamed the wild as fearsome and ruthless.   Can the voiceless come forth and say— It was our home you snatched away? You cleared our forests, dried our streams, Left us with no food, no sh...

When Heart Prevails

Image
Your eyes tugged my heart so tight, Like drumbeats echoing in all it’s might. Your silent gaze, so sharp and deep, Would unsettle my mind even in sleep   My lips went mute, my words set still, My eyes were locked against my will. Your cool appeal, your subtle grace, Left me captive in your space.   From friends we knew came warnings to part, Their voices murmured, "You’re worlds apart." A force so meek yet stance so high, Made me waver and step aside.   I promised to keep my distance true, And shield my heart from falling too. Yet fate had plans beyond my sight, The moment you spoke, I lost the fight.   Raised within walls, loving but traditional, My heart obeyed, no dreams felt rational. I laughed at those who set the bars, For love knew nothing of birth or stars.   We parted ways to chase our skies, Not knowing where our fate would rise. And absence, as the wise men say, Made fonder hearts that pav...
